New School Bass IV
Summer is here in Southern California and last week, we really got a taste of it. On Friday and Saturday the temperature hit triple digits and Sunday wasn't much cooler. Despite the heat, we hit the lake in search of a Summer pattern that would produce quality fish.
We got into them right of the rip, catching the tail end of a morning top water bite. There were shad everywhere and schools of bass were gorging on them in open water. Deep water weed lines and structure provided good cover for bass to escape the sun and ambush the passing schools of shad. We spent a good amount of time picking apart structure with senkos and landed a few nice fish. By 11am it was too hot to not jump in the water, so we cooled off and prepped for the afternoon.
As noon became afternoon, cloud cover began to move in along with a light breeze. Boat wakes, from pleasure boaters got the water moving and waves pounded main lake points. This muddied up the water and made a murky water line, just outside the weeds. Throwing jerkbaits on these lines paid off big time and we got into some solid fish.
Overall, we had an epic day catching bass and cooling off in the lake. If you want to catch some Summer Bass fishing vibes, check out the video and photos below.
