The previous morning we would have been wearing shorts and t-shirts but there was a chill in the air today, the thermostat showed 50 and that was cool enough for me to throw on a hoody. The sun crept over the tree line and illuminated the steaming lake in a foggy, orange morning glow. Despite the beautiful scenery the fishing was slow until about 9am when we heard a splash. I turned around looking in the direction that the sound came from and saw waves rolling away from where a fish had jumped. I noticed two dragon flies fluttering about 6 inches off the water and periodically touching down, then out of nowhere a bass launched itself clear out of the water, mouth wide open and engulfed the insect in mid air… I’ve fished my fair share of lakes around the country but no where gets me fired up like home.
