Winter Day Dreaming

Here we are once again; March in New England and it’s cold. In all honesty it’s been a mild winter, but after having spent the last three years in San Diego, I can’t help but notice the difference. There really hasn’t been a lot of snow in Rhode Island and the lake only froze over for a few days before the temperature rose enough for the ice to break up. Despite the mild weather, I really haven’t been fishing much. We got out a few times when the weather was exceptional, but something about the short days just leaves me uninspired to be on the water.

We're Back

It’s hard to believe that it’s been Four months since I posted last. For those of you who don’t know, back in May I moved from Southern California to my home state of Rhode Island. If you have ever moved even just down the street, you know how much of a pain it can be, never mind moving across the country. Aside from getting yourself and all your possessions from point A to point B, it takes time to adjust. After a few months, I finally feel like I’m back in the swing of things and I’m stoked for what that means for New School Bass.

Early Season Bass on the Fly

It’s that time of year again, March is in full swing and whether your home lake is open water or still cloacked in a wintery sheet of ice the urge to get your hands on that first Bass of the season is constantly in your head. For those of us further south, it’s not so bad, but I remember all to well the feeling of looking at a body of water covered in ice too thin for ice fishing, just waiting for a good wind storm and warm snap to blow thru and open up the lake.

One thing about the East Coast that I’m excited for is Striper Fishing. Rhode Island is home to one of the countries best Striper fisheries and you better believe we will be taking full advantage of in. New School Bass: Rainy Day Blues

Last weekend, I hit the lake with the homie Evan (@bassfactory101) to start filming New School Bass Season II. The morning started off cold and wet, but we were stoked to be on the water. At first there was a light breeze and a heavy mist. You know, the type of rain that every time you think it’s done and take off your jacket, it starts raining again. The breeze was a little cool but nice in the way that when the breaks in rain came, everything would dry off quick. As we made our way down the shoreline, we picked apart the weeds, grass, and rocks that we came across. From there on out, we threw everything we had at them.

Where Should We Fish?

As I mentioned a few weeks back in “Looking Ahead to 2019” I will be doing some traveling this year. I will be fishing in Southern California until April, then I will be driving across the country to Rhode Island for the Summer. Traveling across the country presents many opportunities to fish, film and meet new people. I want to make NSB Season 2 as epic as possible, so this is where I need your help. Looking Forward to 2019

With less than a day left in 2018, it’s crazy looking back at the year and all that came with it. 2018 was a year for the books, tons of fishing, photos, and filming. We documented some great adventures and shared them with all of our new friends and followers. While I am extremely proud of New School Bass and our first year, I can’t help but look ahead to 2019 and where it will take us.

Choosing the Right Baitcaster for Bass

As someone who compulsively absorbs any information I can find about bass fishing, it’s only natural I have acquired a decent amount of knowledge about the industry behind the sport. The deeper I get into this industry, the larger it seems to become and the more fascinated I become with it. I’ve probably fished thousands of different products from hundreds of different companies, and the incredible part is that I’m not a pro angler or even one with a disposable income to spend on gear. Lures of all different shapes and styles, hooks for every imaginable application, line made with space-age materials, rods that are so light you can only feel their weight in the guilt from their price, and the reels—oh my, how I love the reels.
