To me Bass fishing is all about accessibility, there are not many fish found more numerous and with more ease than Bass. From the local drainage ditch to the extensive river system and everything in between, Bass are close by, available, and ready to be caught. Ya, we all like gear and fishing can get expensive but it can also be as simple as a few baits and one rod. That’s exactly what Everyday Angler is all about. Early Spring Bass fishing is all about water temperature. Find the warmer water and most likely you will find the fish. One easy way to do this when your fishing from shore is to find the rockiest part of the lake with the most exposure to the sun and start there. Rocks warm up quick and retain heat. They heat the water around them and that attracts insects, baitfish, and Bass. Since it’s early Spring the Bass are in a pre-spawn phase and close to the largest they will be all year, I wanted to throw a bait with a larger profile and give the fish a look at a good sized meal. The swimbait that I was throwing was a 6.5” Blueback Herring by Live Target. If your just getting into swimbaits, this bait is great because the price point isn’t bad and it gets you use to the swim and feel of a bigger soft bait with an exposed hook. Personally, I really enjoy fishing this bait. In my opinion it matches an alewife or river herring pretty accurately and like I mention because it’s not too expensive, I don’t mind throwing when things get a little tight.
