Double Barrel Popper
Summer time is here and what better way to prepare for epic top water action than by tying up some Double Barrel Poppers. Lets get started!
Steps:
1. Lay down a thread base and snip off the tag end.
2. Tie in a clump of deer hair extending the length of the hook shank
3. Next, tie in accent flash on either side of the hook half way down the deer hair.
4. In the same spot the accent flash was tied in, tie in 2 pairs of rubber legs on either side of the hook shank.
5. Clean up and shape the hook shank with multiple wraps of thread and tie in a piece of hackle.
6. Pierce the Double Barrel Popper body with a heated up bodkin.
7. Apply superglue to the hook shank and slide the body centering it around the hook shank.
8. Wrap the hackle forward until you reach the popper body then tie off and snip the extra hackle.
9. Whip finish directly behind the popper body and snip the thread off close to the hook shank.
10. Next, pierce the Double Barrel Popper directly behind the eyes with the leg puller.
11. Thread the rubber legs through the eye of the leg puller, then pull the legs back through the body.
12. Cut the legs to the desired length.
13. All that’s left to do is tie it on and chuck it at some big bass!
Nothin’ is sweeter than catching Bessie on a fly that you tied yourself!
Tight lines,
Allen
