Read MoreLast weekend, I hit the lake with the homie Evan (@bassfactory101) to start filming New School Bass Season II. The morning started off cold and wet, but we were stoked to be on the water. At first there was a light breeze and a heavy mist. You know, the type of rain that every time you think it’s done and take off your jacket, it starts raining again. The breeze was a little cool but nice in the way that when the breaks in rain came, everything would dry off quick. As we made our way down the shoreline, we picked apart the weeds, grass, and rocks that we came across. From there on out, we threw everything we had at them.

With less than a day left in 2018, it’s crazy looking back at the year and all that came with it. 2018 was a year for the books, tons of fishing, photos, and filming. We documented some great adventures and shared them with all of our new friends and followers. While I am extremely proud of New School Bass and our first year, I can’t help but look ahead to 2019 and where it will take us.
Since the first cameras we made accessible, people have been photographing their catches. When it comes to catch and release, photos are the only proof we have of our catch. A fraction of a second, captured in time symbolizing an epic triumph over nature. In todays world, these images can take many forms, but it seems the most commonly they are a digital images are captured on a iphone or go pro. But the time has come, maybe you can't quit seem to capture the beauty of the fish or your surroundings on your phone and your looking to upgrade to a dslr. This leads to the question where do I start?

No, I’m not talking about a promotion, a new car, or a vacation that you just can’t quite afford. If you’re a real bass fisherman, this means so much more than that. I’m talking about those perfect green or brown specimens that lurk in lakes, rivers, and reservoirs across the country, ambushing preyfish, smashing lures, and ultimately capturing the hearts of millions of people who pursue them. I’ve been utterly obsessed with bass and bass fishing for over a decade, and the deeper I get into it the more I fall in love with these tough, stocky fish and the thousands of different ways to catch them. However, where I’m from, they are all but out of reach for four, five, or sometimes even six months of the year. A solid sheet of ice and water temperatures that dip into the lower 30s drop bass metabolisms significantly, and they become as elusive and difficult to catch as they can be.

By Wednesday of week Two, I was getting texts from my good friend and fishing buddy Evan (@bassfactory101), saying the lake was on fire. He was out there catching multiple limits, 20-30 fish a day and I was stuck watching him slay from Instagram. By Friday, I couldn’t take it anymore. The long days of Summer are mostly over, but the chill of Fall isn't in full effect. It can be tough to find fish and even harder to catch them. Despite the difficult fishing, I have always enjoyed this time of year. I love a good challenge and catching transitional Bass is one of them. Over the years, through many failed attempts I have learned a few techniques that seem to do the trick, or at least help catch a limit during this tough time of year. Weather patterns and lake conditions vary and I must say, most of these techniques pertain to my experience fishing for Northern Strain Bass in the north east.
